Let the discussion continue.
If you missed it, Doug Austin wrote about recent case law covering the question. If a document is linked in chat or email, is it an attachment? He asked for input.
He asked for input on LinkedIn too. You can see the conversation that ensued.
Doug has promised some updates as he gathers feedback, but it’s definitely an interesting conversation. Is it an attachment, or is it just a related document, especially if the document at the link has been edited since the time it was shared in that message?

Microsoft will unbundle Teams from Microsoft 365 and Office 365 in much of Europe October 1 - I wonder if this is just the start. When this first became an issue, with the likes of Slack and Google banging the unfair business practice drum over Teams, I wondered if we could see something similar with Purview. After all, I can’t think of a single person I’ve talked to who wasn’t evaluating the eDiscovery, IG, Privacy, or Security tools in Purview “because we already own it” thanks to bundling.
This doesn’t surprise me, the functionality was kind of the same anyway, why maintain two different tools? - User Data Search Replaced by Purview eDiscovery standard
This was fun to watch. I’m not so sure law firms are going to be making a switch to SharePoint as their document management tool, but thinking again about that bundling question, they own it already and they are using Teams to collaborate with clients more often. What do you think?
Amit Dungarani has opinions about M365 eDiscovery tools - Why Microsoft 365 Is Not the Answer for eDiscovery. He has some valid points. The only thing I would argue is that I don’t think anyone is saying Purview eDiscovery Premium should be your complete Discovery solution, (It doesn’t even have production tools for goodness’ sake), but the gaps he discusses are valid concerns.

Here’s hoping those of you in the US enjoyed the long Labor Day weekend, and that you don’t even see this until Tuesday because you were spending the extra day disconnected.
