I spoke too soon - New Purview eDiscovery Preview and linked attachments
The lesson, as always, check everything before you type.
You may recall a few weeks back when I got my first quick peek at the preview of the eDiscovery solution in the new Microsoft Purview, I saw the ability to check a box when exporting data from a Standard case that would collect linked attachments.
I’m not kidding about this. I could add the results to a review set and directly export from my standard case. I could have it grab linked attachments and convert the conversations to HTML transcripts in both a premium and standard case.
My mistake was assuming that doing those things from a standard case and seeing it remain listed as a standard case in the case list meant it was available in all standard cases. Hence, with an e3 license, it could be done. For example, this case does not indicate that it’s been changed to a premium case despite the review sets that were created:
This week, when doing some further testing, I discovered the truth about this.
I realized the error when I created a standard case in an environment with only an e3 license. I was met with grayed-out options and obvious blocks requiring the Premium eDiscovery license.
So, that’s a significant disappointment.
Given this information, the entire change to this new eDiscovery interface seems primarily cosmetic. There are not many significant changes, and the e3 experience is not that different. But a couple of things caught my eye when doing an export.
